The importance of targeting website content at mobile users cannot be underestimated:
Out of the box, SharePoint 2010 will deliver a basic interface to users, stripping away all customisations and allowing basic interaction with the site. There are no images, all sites effectively look the same - not a very compelling user experience. SharePoint 2007 and earlier will provide no mobile interface whatsoever which makes viewing on a mobile extremely difficult.
The image on the right shows how this site looks on a mobile browser using the standard SharePoint 2010 mobile interface. Even though this is a publishing site, the content itself isn't shown, along with no images or styles. This is because the interface is designed for maximum compatibility for all phones, with the emphasis on collaboration, not content.
Citric has developed a unique solution that enables any publishing site based on SharePoint to be delivered in a smartphone friendly format. We retain the look and feel of the original site, while adapting the interface to the mobile experience, and ensuring bandwidth is kept to a minimum. Non-smartphones can be redirected to the original basic mobile site.
The image on the right is the same site as viewed with our mobile solution applied. The user sees the same content and navigation as they would using a desktop browser, and you only need to maintain one site - publish content once and reach all users, on all devices, all platforms. Our solution is tested and supported on:
This solution work's best with SharePoint, and we'd be happy to quote for a complete SharePoint publishing solution as one option. Alternatively, the solution can be adapted to work with other content-managed websites with suitable web services, and can even be run as a cloud-based solution, providing an alternate to your main hosting provider.
